Sanchar Saathi: Safety Solution or Unnecessary Digital Burden?

Sanchar Saathi App Faces Criticism Over Usefulness and Privacy

New Delhi, December 3, 2025:
The government’s mobile app Sanchar Saathi is facing strong criticism from technology experts and social media users. Many people are questioning the purpose of the app and whether it is a good use of public money.

Technology journalist Javed Anwer has openly said that the app is unnecessary and does not solve real cyber security problems. He claimed that the app mainly collects user data and does not offer any strong new protection to mobile users.

What the Government Says:

The Department of Telecommunications says the app helps people block lost or stolen mobile phones. The department has been promoting the app heavily and says it will help improve digital safety.

Why Critics Are Unhappy:

Experts say that if a person loses a phone, the Sanchar Saathi app cannot be used because it is already lost along with the phone. In such cases, users still have to visit a website to block their device. Because of this, many feel the app is not very useful.

They also point out that most smartphones already have strong safety features. Both Android and iPhone phones come with tools that allow users to:

  • Find lost phones
  • Lock stolen phones
  • Erase data from a distance

Because these features already exist, critics feel that the Sanchar Saathi app does not add anything new.

Privacy Concerns:

Another big concern is user privacy. Many people are worried about how much personal data the app collects. Some private messaging apps allow users to work without sharing phone numbers or personal details, but Sanchar Saathi requires personal information.

Digital rights groups fear that this can lead to misuse of data or unwanted tracking.

Public Opinion Divided:

While some people support the government’s move and believe the app is for public safety, many others feel it is a waste of taxpayers’ money. The debate over the app continues on social media, with strong opinions on both sides.
