Mangaluru: Rowdy Sheeter with 31 Criminal Cases Arrested After 9 Years on the Run

Mangaluru, Feb 19:
The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested a notorious rowdy sheeter who had been absconding for the past nine years despite having 31 criminal cases against him.

The arrested accused has been identified as Safwan Hussain (42). Police said he had changed his identity and fled abroad to evade arrest. Acting on specific information that he had returned to India from abroad for Ramadan, the CCB team launched an operation in Andhra Pradesh and successfully apprehended him.

According to police, Safwan Hussain was an active member of a target gang and was involved in several serious crimes. Cases registered against him include two murders, gang rape, attempt to murder, robbery, and multiple offences across various police station limits. He is also accused of assaulting police personnel, theft, and chain-snatching.

Investigations revealed that the accused had obtained an Aadhaar card under a fake name and was living in Andhra Pradesh as Umar Mohammed Nasir. He later fled abroad in 2018. Based on intelligence inputs about his return to India, a special team led by ACP Manoj Kumar conducted an operation in the Rayachoti area of Andhra Pradesh and arrested him.

Further investigation is underway.
